Cinque Terre Adventures: Vernazza

Our next stop in Cinque Terre was Vernazza. From Monterosso, we hiked roughly 2 hours to Vernazza. As I said in my previous post, there is a manned station along the hiking trail where you have to pay roughly 8 euros a person in order to proceed to Vernazza. Not to sound negative but it’s a little ridiculous to have to pay for a 2-mile hike, especially when you consider that the train tickets are only 5 euros! But that's just the way it is.

Part of the hike from Monterosso to Vernazza. As I stated, it's pretty steep with steps to climb along the way. Not recommended for those with bad knees.

The hike is a bit challenging. For most of the way, it's an uphill hike, with a good portion of the hike being quite steep. I would not recommend it for anyone with bad knees as there are steps along the way. I feel that the hike from Vernazza to Monterosso would be much easier as you would be going downhill for the last half of the journey. Regardless, it's a nice hike with beautiful views and signs that inform you of the history of the area.

Beautiful view along the hike

As you approach Vernazza, you will see a stunning panorama of the town. We were fortunate in that we approached Vernazza as the sun was beginning to set.

The view of Vernazza from above

The town of Vernazza is very cute. Not only is the view from above stunning, but the little alleyways that lead to the marina are filled with charming shops, restaurants, and homes. If you’re lucky enough to catch the sunset as we did, it’s beautiful along the marina.
